The new big yurt: a new interior space
The new yurt will have a surface of about 60sqm in order to offer more specific workshops and to be able to admit more children to our school. Thanks to high number of families interested in our project the yurt we use at the moment (30sqm) has become too small.
Dry Toilet / compost
Installation of a dry toilet with a composting system
We need to cover the processing fees of Goteo 4%, bank transaction fees 0,8%, Paypal fee 3,4% + 0,35€ for each transaction.
Scholarship for a single-parent family during one school year
There are several families interested in our project that cannot afford to pay the monthly fee of € 200 we ask to cover the basic costs. In this particular case there is single mum with a three year old boy we would like to help.
Materials for the exterior
Acquisition of materials and equipment in order to continue adapting the exterior space to create new play options: a new slide, a ramp, a flying fox and construction material to build wooden huts and material for carpentry or cooking workshops.
ACQUISITION OF PEDAGOGICAL MATERIALS
We would like to buy Pikler and Montessori materials and musical instruments to provide more specific tools for the broad variety of ages we have in our project in order to support the learning process of the children in their different development stages.

In September 2015 the Association Active Education Sanlúcar initiated an exciting project: the Active School “La Realidad” (The Reality), a place where boys and girls between two and six can develop their abilities through real experiences. In this school we apply the results of recent investigations in neuroscience about the fundaments of learning and the process of growing up.
The objectives of our school are that the children preserve their intrinsic motivation to learn and that they base their actions on liberty and respect in order to grow up to be autonomous and responsible persons.
We offer the possibility of a comprehensive development by playing, experimenting, experiencing values and healthy personal relationships in a natural and affective environment.
Description of the project. Main features, strengths and differentials.
My name is The Reality and I am so happy to meet you. Well, actually, what I mean to say is that I am happy to introduce myself so you can discover me step by step. I live submerged in the middle of nature. If you have the chance you should come and see me. So you could feel the peace that surrounds me. Often, when people come and see me, as they take the first steps their faces are filled by surprise and they usually make a sound that goes like this: "Wooooowwww" (I love to see them in this very moment and I always feel moved). I hear them say that I am beautiful and they would have loved to grow up in a place like me.
I exist for the children, I am a tool so that they can be that they are: children. They can move in my exterior and in my interior parts, as they like. The exterior gives them the opportunity to move their bodies and explore me with their five senses, in liberty and security. There they can find water, wood, sand, leafs, nets to climb, swings, costumes, a theatre, a retreat to talk calmly... The interior space is a yurt. Do you know what it is? It´s a house used by nomadic tribes in Mongolia. It´s a special place, because it´s round and being round there are no corners where the dust can accumulate, the energy flows and everybody who spend some time in it can feel the harmony it provides. Well, I will stop talking now and let you read the things my friends Luda and Kiko (the children´s guides) have written to explain to you how the project works which I help to turn into REALITY. Big hugs.
A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
In spring of 2015 several people gathered in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (South of Spain) for the first time, to talk and share ideas about different ways of understanding education and looking for alternatives to the traditional school system. Working groups were created which led to the constitution of the Association Active Education Sanlúcar in order to create the school project. In summer of the same year a group of persons started to build the school with a lot of effort and eagerness in order to start the school project in September. Step by step the space turned into what we know today as the Active School La Realidad. Finally, the 10th of September 2015, La Realidad opened its doors for the first time. We started with three kids and ended up with eight at the end of the first school year. This filled us with enthusiasm and every new child joining the school has given us new motivation and has reaffirmed our conviction that this kind of places are indispensable .
Where you can find us: "The ecological farm of Paqui and Paco"
As we consider the contact with nature as something fundamental in the development of a human being, we chose this fantastic natural space to build the school. This gives us the opportunity to be in direct contact with nature every day. The farm of our friends Paqui and Paco is situated in the middle of an eucalyptus grove surrounded by pine woods. On their farm they try to preserve a sustainable balance between all living creatures, with the lowest impact possible, putting into practice a healthy and conscious way of living.
Here we have the possibility to experience firsthand knowledge about the changes during the four seasons. For instance, we can see the orange tree flower in spring, smell it and observe how it turns slowly into a small green ball which becomes bigger in summer and finally pick the mature fruit and eat it below the tree in autumn. This and similar processes can be observed continuously on the vegetable plantation and with the animals.
We believe that the creation of a positive attitude towards nature in the children´s minds depends decisively on their possibility to encounter nature. An intense contact and a variety of positive everyday experiences in nature is crucial for the development of an environmental conscience. Who gets to know nature in his o her childhood, will respect nature as an adult.
"You can only protect what you know“.
Why this is important
SOME PRINCIPALS THAT GUIDE US:
Autonomy and non-directivity
We consider children as capable beings, that is why we support their autonomy and try to interfere the least as possible in their learning process. Each child has to get to know him/herself and become conscious about his or her necessities and interests. The adult´s function is to create a secure environment for the child to develop his or her capacities and personality. That is why our project is based on the idea of non-imposition and the respect of the human processes. We believe that learning should be originated in personal motivations, without interference or conditioning by the guides who accompany the children.
In order to create adequate conditions that favour the learning process the children need to feel secure and respected. Their fundamental necessities have to be covered in order to be able to concentrate themselves on identifying their interests. In our point of view the basic necessity of all beings is to be accepted and loved unconditionally. The confidence that this transmits and is acquired by a person that knows and feels that he or she is being loved represents the main impulse to activate the learning mechanism.
Respond to the necessities
The children that are part of La Realidad are aged between 2 and 6. In this period of life they are getting to know what surrounds them through their bodies and their senses, they experience learning through concrete things. The different spaces that offers La Realidad respond to their necessities to develop motor, cognitive and affective/relational abilities.
We are always keeping in mind that learning arises from the inside. That is why we respect the genuine personal drift of each little person, offering prepared spaces and not interfering in the learning process. In this period of life girls and boys live in a world with an egocentric vision. The "me" is being shaped and only parting from this point of view they will be able to expand their vision and construct their real personality. Precisely for that reason we respect their processes and their decisions to share or not objects, spaces or moments.
Free and spontaneous playing is one of the fundamental pillars of La Realidad. It comes up naturally from the children who create the game and transform it according to their most profound necessities. When we think that our children are not doing anything, we should observe them a while. Then we would see how things happen while they are playing. We would see that the game is not finished, that it is a continuous act of creation. They create it the very moment and this requires great creative and social capacity. By playing they acquire important social abilities, release stress, become conscious of things, and last but not least they spend a pleasant and satisfactory time which leads to a more fulfilled life.
Goals of the crowdfunding campaign
In Spain alternative education is still quite a new concept and most of the "different" schools receive no public funding. In our case, we are a private initiative of a few families who believe that a different kind of education is possible. With great effort we cover the basic costs by paying a monthly contribution and working together improving the infrastructure of our school on the week-ends.
In La Realidad, until now, we had two different spaces: the exterior space and the small yurt.
The exterior space
Since we started the project we are been constructing step by step the external space full of possibilities to learn and play. Here the children can climb, swing, jump, all necessary things to develop their motor abilities. It is a secure space with soft soil, as we believe that for growing up and acquiring abilities it is important to have secure surroundings, as well physically as emotionally. It is a place where children can play freely, develop themselves, grow up and learn new things in a natural environment, surrounded by plants, trees and animals. Everything has been built keeping in mind that all our acts affect nature and the environment, that is why we treat it respectfully. However, the process of conditioning of the exterior is not yet finished and that is why we ask for you collaboration to be able to continue to finance it.
The small yurt
The small yurt is an interior space prepared with materials both structured as well as unstructured. It is the space the children look for when they need to be in a cosy place. Inside we speak with a soft tone and everything goes more slowly, it is a space that favours concentration. The materials are placed on shelves in an organized way, so that the children know where to find them, they can use them any time and put them back where they belong. The fact that the place is tidy favours that the children also organize themselves better and that the coexistence is respectfully.
The new big yurt
The new yurt that we are building right now will be a larger interior space in order to offer more specific workshops. Depending on the interests and the necessities in each evolutionary period of the children we will offer music, dance, yoga, crafts workshops and introduce the older children into reading and writing. This new yurt requires a great economic effort which we would like you to support. Each contribution is welcome in order to finish this fantastic new space necessary to offer the children new stimulus in their learning process.
We are a group of families that are looking for a different type of education for our children. Our convictions have led us to start this project with the support of two educational professionals who are well trained and have lots of experience in alternative pedagogies.
Each family participating in the project contributes to it thanks to their diverse abilities and hobbies. Among us we have musicians, psychologists, computer experts, nutritionists, carpenters, etc.
