General information

INTERDEMOS invites you to support the KET center, a cultural venue that also organizes public debates, and open education workshops on the commons. This is one of our actions in support to initiatives that play an important role in a new development of the solidarity structures in Greece.

You support to KET will have an immediate and concrete impact. It will increase the number of people that can be accomodated in the venue, the diversity and quality of the cultural and political events. For instance, the KET will be able to host regularly trainings sessions and creative workshops for migrants in Athens et the means for documentation and dissemination of its activities (under commons licencing) will be strongly increased.

Description of the project. Main features, strengths and differentials.

The KET is a space for cultural activities, public debate and solidarity. Active since more than 5 years ago, it organizes today events on a daily basis, whether concerts (in particular for improvisation music) theater, litterature, public debates, open education (in particular on the commons) and solidarity workshops. The venues can host 60 people. It has today reach its sustainbility threshold, but is very success, the wear and tear of the initial equipment, the more demanding projects that are now staged render a new round of investment necessary. Le lieu accueille environ 60 personnes. Le KET est aujourd'hui soutenable (see "why is it important ?"" and the Costs section of the project.

The theater play Guerre des paysages ("Landscape war") created at KET in May 2017, will be represented at the Compagnie de Reims on 12 and 13 February.

Why this is important

As a venue for art, public debate and open education, KET is one the spaces where a movement for new societal iinstitutions in Greece goes forward. These institutions organize the daily solidarity which is so necessary in a country where public services and redistributive schemes are permanently subject to destructive policies. But they do more that that. They are the laboratory that will bring forward new aims for a still in-the works movement that puts commons-based policies and direct initiatives from society at the core of tis joint agenda.

Team and experience

INTERDEMOS organized a large financing campaign in 2015 in support to solidarity structures inGreece. Despite the failure of an initial very abitious participatory financing campaign (with an objective of raising € 300 000), we were able to transmit more that € 90 000 to the solidarity structures through the Solidarity for All foundation, the organization that the coordinated the transmission of funds to the solidarity structures. In the new situation created by the 3rd memorandum, INTERDEMOS supports specific initiatives. For instance, we oragnized the support in France to the UNIVERSSE project also conducted on Goteo.

For the support to KET, the team brings together Laure Vermeersch and Philippe Aigrain for INTERDEMOS and the two founders of KET: Dimitris Alexakis and Fotini Banou for the KET and the use of the collected funds.
