What are the effects of the mass media self-censorship in Mexico?

Since the official start of Narco War (at the end of 2006) and with violent events happening everyday all over Mexico, mass media have now a mandatory rule of silence about daily shootouts, killings or corruption.
This is one of the principal reasons to you colaborate with Warscape Sonata, because while the mass media in Mexico is silenced by force, social media are exploding on fear yelling for help or attention.
