General information

Let us introduce our Project. The association Waldorf Sevilla Girasol was founded on February 2012 in order to:
Put into practice and expand the methodology created by Rudolf Steiner, at the beginning of the XIX century, also known as Waldorf-Steiner Pedagogy.

Promote this non-profit organization in order to create a kindergarten, a primary and a secondary school following this pedagogy, approved by the Spanish Education Ministry.

Promote and support other initiatives inspired on this Waldorf Pedagogy.

On the year 2013, we opened the first playgroup in Seville, with five kids and made a great effort to show the goodness of this methodology in our community. Thanks to the hard work from the families, teacher and associates, supporting the project, we successfully opened the first official kindergarten with a free pedagogy in Seville certified by Junta de Andalucía (See BOJA, 28th dec. 2015). Inspired by these important recognition, in the year 2017 we achieved the authorization to operate as an international kindergarten and primary school.

Next school year we are going to open our second primary classroom, to continue, this way, spreading the wonderful Waldorf pedagogy to our children and our society. This project that started with just one kid, has turned into a school in motion dedicated to children’s services and to the whole society.

Description of the project. Main features, strengths and differentials.

Our school consists of a group of parents and teachers with a strong sense of social and pedagogical commitment, whose organization and support comes from the community itself without state support.

Next school year we will be opening our second classroom for primary children, following this process of development and growth. Last September 2017 we opened the first one, and we already have students in our kindergarten who will start primary education on September next year. We are still growing.

We need economic support to equip this new classroom, but we also open our doors to those of you who want to share with us the construction of this school, as adults do in Waldorf pedagogy.

We need a blackboard, tables and chairs for the students and teacher, a sink, shelves, for materials, watercolors, a bench with a coat rack for shoes and clothes and a climate control for extreme temperatures in Sevilla.

Why this is important

The International School Waldorf Sevilla Girasol has become a referent point for education in Andalucia, as an official model of free school that integrates children of different sex, culture and confessions. Waldorf pedagogy always respects the individuality of children and also their maturity process. They learn in an artistic and multicultural environment, where different languages and cultural interchanges play an important role.

Our project is therefore designed to everyone concerned with childhood and also to all these dreamers who believe in a better society based on an education towards freedom.

As Rudolf Steiner said:

“The healthy social life is only found when, in the mirror of each soul, the whole community finds its reflection, and when in the community lives the virtue of each one."

Team and experience

We count on an experienced group of people used to work in adverse circumstances. The process of creation and legalization of the school has benefit a great specialization inside the educational community.

Nowadays the association counts on 42 families organized in different commissions: garden, maintenance, legalization localization of a new site, library and cleaning. Every group is headed by a person responsible to coordinate them and to represent them inside the management board of the association. This management board supports the legal and economic aspects of the association.

There is also a teaching body that consists of 4 supervising teachers and 4 specialists. They are in charge of ensuring the right development of the Waldorf methodology. The representative of this teaching body is the board of teachers that coordinates the everyday life in the school.
