Chrṓma is a musical & theatrical project created by Les Bolinguis. We are a group of 6 art students, musicians and actors who want to create a solidarity project: a show that goes beyond all language or cultural barriers. Given the actual situation of Refugees and Asylum seekers, we would like to play the show this summer at the camps in Greece.
The show is going to be about a trip- also inspired in their story-, in which our main character goes through some difficulties and experiences that will help her on her search of the colour of her rose. We are aiming for something appealing, attractive and entertaining, especially for children, but we are also aiming for more poetic language, which will bring the message of hope that we want to transmit to adults. To create this show we are looking for a universal language , that is why we have chosen mask and physical theatre.
Description of the project. Main features, strengths and differentials.
With this project we want to experiment, create and innovate on different artistic proposals, as well as spread and promote culture through performing arts on rural or marginal communities, just as refugees and asylum seekers. We want to bring our drop of enthusiasm into the camps in Greece.
We would love to do this project this summer: 2018. In order to develop it we are investing a lot of hopeful anticipation and a lot of effort, but we still need as much help as we can get. With the minimum budget we want to ensure that we can run the project. It would be ideal to reach the optimum, to make sure we cover with it most of the expenses of the trip.
If you prefer to help us with something else than money, we would also love:
- a place to rehearse in June-July 2018
- an electric piano to take with us on the trip
- lodging in Greece
- an amplifier
Why this is important
This idea came up after the experience of some of us as volunteers with refugees in Greece for the last two summers. Even though many NGOs, different projects and so many volunteers are doing their best trying to provide decent living conditions, life is not easy for refugees. They are waiting. It’s uncertainty; it’s not knowing what it is going to happen next nor when. Fortunately, there are already many projects focused on leisure activities which are very successful. Indeed, in this developing communities ruled by wait and bureaucracy, leisure and culture are two essential social tools. Yes, culture is also a necessity, they need to be able to relate to other people, to enjoy themselves and to have fun.
After seeing this we thought to ourselves, since we are studying music and theatre why not to use our creativity and bring them a show? And that’s how the seed of this project was born, with the idea of bringing them with us on a poetic journey; because life is something more than just eating and sleeping.
The actors are Mar, Nuria, Cristina and Jorge and we study at the Real Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático of Madrid. The musicians are Nuria&Constantin, who, coming from different musical backgrounds, found a happy musical potpourri of music from here and there.
We have learned a lot during our artistic training, but thinking about this project means going one step further, because we are creating from zero a show for people from very different cultures and in a very delicate situation. For us it is a wonderful artistic challenge and a way to channel our learning into the fields of help, looking for a sincere and humane expression that transcends borders and arrives to this public.
Laia Amigó Ayats is our designer. She is currently finishing her studies at Elisava in Barcelona and she takes care of our logo and image. Jose Fernández Teja is our audiovisual manager and he filmed and produced our video.
We started working on this project in August 2017, creating through different techniques the characters, the music, etc. We are a young group and it is our first time creating this type of show. However, with all our engagement, effort and enthusiasm this experience is becoming already very rewarding.
Thank you very much for your help :)
