General information

This is a campaign to create 10 vegetable gardens Soacha and Ciudad Bolivar, Bogota. The goal is to raise 7,000 euros to support these 10 vegetable gardens with which they will feed 343 families, more than 1,000 people, with few economic resources.

It is an action to promote food self-sufficiency and security, and thus contribute to the peace process through solidary economy. The situation in these neighbourhoods is serious because they are territories abandoned by the state, making them spaces where armed gangs of all kinds operate with impunity, and where socio-economic inequalities are very marked.

The campaign also aims to strengthen self-management and self-organization in order to overcome the humanitarian crisis that has been exacerbated by the current Covid 19 pandemic.

Description of the project. Main features, strengths and differentials.

Build and support 10 urban vegetable gardens
Support and back up 343 families, more than 1,000 people
Boosting and maintaining self-sufficiency and food security
Promoting equality and social inclusion for low-income families
*Supporting the construction of peace by strengthening solidarity economies

Why this is important

It is a campaign of solidarity intended for all people and initiatives local and international (from America, Europe, Asia and Africa) that energize and support cooperationism, and solidarity economies, which are involved and motivated to overcome social inequalities, engaged in the peace processes, as well as committed to maintaining an ecological economy that respects natural ecosystems. The campaign will enable us to make visible the capacities and energies of those who live in great difficulty and nevertheless seek to face the inequalities present to improve their lives in the near future. It is the constant efforts of the modest populations that build the peace necessary to live in dignity, and this is because they are able to mobilize resources rooted in a kind of economy and society that we can call solidarity economies.

Team and experience

The cooperatives and entities that are at the root of this project have been working for many years to develop cooperation and solidarity economies, as well as everything that promotes ecologic agriculture and is necessary for low-income people.

There are a wide variety of projects that bring together this group of entities, in Europe and in particular in Catalonia: GESTAPAZ, and the Cooperative La F'brica, in Colombia: the organization Seeds of Hope for Life and Peace. They have been working on food projects for many years and supporting networks of solidarity, community development and human security, as well as climate initiatives and initiatives for the preservation of natural ecosystems.
