General information

Czechoslovakia, is a short film project recognized by the Ministry of Culture of Peru in 2018. It is a love story between two men in a rural Peruvian town, where such relationships are socially unacceptable due to the prevailing ‘macho’ and conservative culture. And to produce this film, to make it a beautiful audiovisual work, and to cover the costs of professional and logistic services, we need your support.

The director of this project is Professor Dennis Perinango.

Synopsis: Diego is a motorcycle taxi driver who lives in the routine of his mechanical workshop, in the town of Reque, in northern Peru. His hobby is watching his neighboring transvestites play volleyball along the river. Pedro, his assistant discovered Diego's hobby by surprise. This unexpected coincidence triggered a clandestine relationship between the two, caught in a context that does not allow them to assume their true nature.

Description of the project. Main features, strengths and differentials.

We are telling a story of forbidden love between men in a remote, rural area of Peru. We want to tell this story within the Peruvian context where homosexuality is a hidden and marginalized issue.

This project has the talent, passion and commitment of its director and screenwriter Dennis Perinango, who has formed a team of talented Peruvian professionals to shoot the film. Everything is ready to start filming in January 2020 in the province of Reque in northern Peru.

The main objective of the project is to make visible a community that is not accepted and at risk of marginalization. We believe it is necessary to have an honest dialogue in our society and tell the stories of the LGTB community.

Why this is important

The motivation of the project is to generate empathy for the Peruvian LGTB community internationally, creating awareness about the difficulties and risks faced by a very vulnerable group of society in their day to day lives.

Also, it is important to note that for a person with a non-conforming sexuality it is difficult to live fully in our society and much more so in a provincial environment, so we aim for our film to serve as a kind of reflection with which someone can identify and thus motivate and help generate the confidence necessary to accept and allow oneself to be oneself.

Team and experience

Our team is headed by director and screenwriter Dennis Perinango, Audiovisual Director, Professor at two Peruvian universities today. Together with a producer from Trujillo, Angel Pajares, they have called upon local professionals to form the team.

The project area managers are from the cities of Chiclayo and Trujillo. They have previous experience in their respective areas and in feature films produced in the country.

Unfortunately we do not have experienced cinematographers in our regions, therefore, we have invited the outstanding Micaela Cajahuaringa, as director of photography. Although she resides in Lima, we believe that her experience provides a valuable contribution to our team, regarding the work of photography direction, which will contribute to the professional training we need in our regions.
