'Green Hearts' - The empowerment starts from home

On Sunday the 31st of May, we had the opportunity to present our documentary to a few of you. We can say that there was a lot of interest and that we had exciting debates! But today, we would like to come back on what we explained, so that all of you who couldn't make it can know a bit more about what we are preparing.
Only few people say that climate change does not exist. The scientific consensus does not leave space for doubting that it is actually happening. The documentary "Disruption", that we screened last Sunday, explains how in 1988 science could demonstrate that climate change was caused by high emissions of CO2.
In our trailer, we see Margareth Thatcher was already talking about the issue, concluding that action was needed to face this threat. " The evidence is there. The damage has been done" she said. However, years are passing by, and the necessary measures are not taken. On the contrary, with neoliberalism (that Thatcher cherished so much), emissions haven't stopped from rising each and every year.
We citizens tend to complain that politicians do not do anything. Recently, the permit that Obama's administration gave to Shell for drilling in the Arctic created much indignation and probably added to people's disillusion. How can it be that Obama should give that permit when, at the same time, he says that we are the last generation that can act? It leaves many of us baffled.
From 350BCN, we think it is fair to ask ourselves what do we, as citizens, do to pressure politicians to take these binding measures we are hoping for? We were young and have much to learn as a group, but one thing got clearer over the months: if we want to change how things are done (business as usual), we are the ones who have to demand it. If we come to think of it, many politicians are probably waiting for our support.
So then... What should we do? The problem with climate change is that it includes so many aspects of our society (it covers everything to be honest), that we often feel powerless. "I'm not a scientist,you see!", and “Who can understand anything about our economic system without studying three masters anyways?" Well... We don't need that much to start acting. In our group, everyone has its own way to get involved. Only a few are scientific, economic or political experts, but each one of us tries to live a sustainable life.
Taking advantage of all the different profiles of our members, our objective with the documentary Corazones Verdes, is to tackle different themes that all have to do with climate change. We will talk about economy, food, energetic models, democratic processes, international and local fights. Each one of these themes will be introduced by one of our members and will be further developed by an expert.
On Sunday, someone asked if there were already documentaries about climate change; the answer: loads. However, there are very few documentaries about the grassroot movements that have emerged to confront the problem. This documentary will show the complexity of the situation but will also present itself as a tool, giving examples of alternatives. Because there is little value in criticising without giving any solution. We will present both massive actions - such as the People's Climate march - as well as little gestures of our daily life. We firmly believe that empowerment starts from home.
