General information

As every year, in September, there is a meeting where children and teachers from all the countries interested in Design for Change meet and share their stories about change and reinforce the idea that together we can change the world

This year will be the third edition and Spain has always been there. This year we want our participation to be funded by as many as possible, all those who believe that our children can make a better world. That’s why we have decided to launch this crowdfunding campaign

There are 30 countries already confirmed and sending students and teachers

Description of the project. Main features, strengths and differentials.

As every year, the Be the Change Conference will take place in September, an international event with the participation of the children from the countries that compose the movement Design for Change

You may be wondering what is Design for Change... but of course, so many English words! Just a moment and we start from the beginning

Design for Change? What is that??

It is an international movement, born in India, that offers children and young people the opportunity to put into practice their own ideas to change the world, starting with their environment. Nowadays it exists in more than 40 countries with the participation of more than 25 million kids!

And is it there a Design for Change in Spain?

Yes! Is a Non-profit Organization which represents the movement in our country. It works with children, schools and associations all over the year in order to support the launching of those projects that change the world. And once a year it chooses a project to represent Spain in this international event called the Be the Change Conference

The Be the Change Conference?

Yes, now let’s go with the Be the Change Conference (BTC):
As every year in September there is a meeting where children and teachers from all the countries participating in Design for Change (DFC) meet and share their stories about change and reinforce the idea that together we can change the world.

Why this is important

This year will be the third Be the Change Conference edition and Spain has always participated. The last two years financed by a school or by the very association, but this year we want our participation to be financed by many, by all those who believe that our kids are able to make a better world. That’s why we have decided to launch this crowdfunding campaign.

And who are Laura and Sara?

This year we had 65 projects from schools all over Spain. Ten of these projects were pre-selected by the DFC team and submitted to a jury composed by:

• Ana Saenz de Miera, CEO Ashoka Spain & Portugal
• Victoria de Pereda, Responsible for the Sustainability Department at the European Design Institute
• Felix Lozano, Co-founder of Teamlabs.

The jury decided that the project representing Spain at the BTC 2.014 should be:
“Saving water” School: Colegio Santa Teresa de Jesús from Valladolid

And representing students from 5º course Colegio Santa Teresa de Jesús from Valladolid, there are two girls 11 years old who will be at the BTC 2.014, Laura San Juan Domínguez and Sara París Crespo. You have already seen and heard them in the previous video.

If you think that they deserve to be in India explaining their class project to children from all over the world, then, please, help us!

Goals of the crowdfunding campaign

The opportunity to be at the Be the Change Conference will offer Laura and Sara a massive chance to grow as well as help all of us to send a message worldwide, that a better world is possible if we look at our children

Team and experience

The initiative started in Spain as an exploration and experimentation model to understand the education area and to test the need for a project that could bring the idea of design to kids, young people and educational centres in general

Since it appeared in Spain in 2.011 later becoming a Non-profit Association, the project has grown stronger developing several projects like the prototype to help teachers to launch DFC initiative in Spain, or the participation in a forum like TEDxMadrid "Design for social" in 2.011.

And this is because the way to grant the sustainability of the projects is through the teachers, providing them with an apprenticeship, creating a toolkit or guide so the teachers interested in launching an idea have a solid support. This toolkit is available to all who want to start a project in a school or association. On top of that we also offer the educators a place where to try and experiment the basis of the initiative: Our Laboratory I CAN
