General information

Macro is a tool that aims to bring theatre and dance closer to the new technologies. The application has been conceived to facilitate the work of directors, choreographers, and scene direction students in the design of the different categories of movement for the performers within the scenic space. This allows users to sketch the movement composition for any proposal related to the performing arts.

The application would become an essential resource to be used both before and during rehearsal due to the fact that it allows us to preview the movements of the performers in the space, with the final goal of creating a visual composition of the scenic proposal.
This makes Macro de perfect tool for preparing any project in the performing arts.

Description of the project. Main features, strengths and differentials.

Macro deals with the relationship between the performer and the space, understanding this relationship as the interaction of a volume contained in another. The application pays special attention to visual composition and its result along the narrative.

All performing arts companies, either public or private, require a first stage of work in which it is necessary to present a visual composition that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional. Up to this day, this is done in the traditional way, by pen and paper, making this stage longer and more expensive. Macro is here to mitigate this setbacks due to the fact that it allows us to preview the scenic composition, making it possible for this app to generate important savings in costs and time.
Macro provides new ways of approaching the distinct phases in the production process for shows and performances. However its implementation in the curriculum of performing arts courses would mean a real step ahead in educational strategies.

Macro will allow us to:

  1. Analyze and design the visual composition of the scenic proposals, both in public and private settings.
  2. Improve learning and teaching in the areas of higher educations in the performing arts.
  3. Reduce project design costs and times, both in public and private sectors, as well as professional and amateur companies.
  4. Organize rehearsal sessions for both professional and amateur shows.
  5. Offer a powerful and intuitive tool to teachers in secondary education.
  6. Present a specific code for visual compositions to the sector, obtaining improvements at the communicational level and the optimization of projects.

Why this is important

Macro provides us with a digital platform on which we can preview and analyze the desired result so we can rectify, adjust and reorganize errors that can appear during the process of design and montage.
Implementing Macro in the educational system would promote the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in the classrooms.

Team and experience

Teaching experience in different departments of scene direction courses has revealed the need to incorporate the use of digital resources in teaching curriculums. Alongside Ninvus, we begin the design of an application to meet this needs.
Ninvus’ philosophy shows a strong compromise towards the development of tools that aid artists, creators, and performers so they can focus on the more important parts of their work in the arts.
