Fees for 10 sessions

|
€ 300 | |
Video documentation of the activity
While we are doing the portraits we cannot document everything that happens around, so we would like to have the help of a camera man, for having visual material to explain in the future what we do.

General information
What is a portable studio?
We use the outside of the motorhome as a professional photographic set.
We open the awning, put a cloth as a background and black curtains to get a more intimate corner. Thus, we make the model feel more comfortable.
In the photo above we did not put the fabrics because of the strong wind was blowing.
What is the traveling exhibition room?
We want all activity to happen around Bitxa. On one side we will have the study and on the other we will organize the exhibition, where the inhabitants of the town we reach will be able to see the portraits that we have been doing in previous villages.
What will we do with the portraits?
- We will deliver them to each participant. A copy 10x15 cm in photographic paper and the digital format by email.
- We will deliver to the local agency a customized box with 10x15cm portraits and the digital format.
- We will make an exhibition on the side of the motorhome with the portraits we are making.
- We will create a website that will be the Photographic Archive with all the portraits organized by population.
Description of the project. Main features, strengths and differentials.
Living in the motorhome we can approach people differently.
It gives us the opportunity to learn how other people live in each place and to share our lifestyle.
Which are our goals?
The main purpose of this project is to create a photographic archive of portraits. This project will start being local, in Gipuzkoa, and will be also developed at state and European level. This photographic archive will be released through the website www.retratonomada.com, where the portraits will be organized by population.
Thus, through portraits we make in each town, we will leave a record for the local institution of who and how were the people who lived in town in 2020.
The photography is a reflection tool. The act of photographing will be a social event in the villages that will encourage sharing, observation and reflection both individually and collectively.
At the same time, the exhibition will be mounted in the outside of the Bitxa, will encourage people from different villages meet and know each other.
What will be our dynamics?
The first step will be to contact the councils and local management entities in small towns of Gipuzkoa.
Once we have established the route on the map, we will begin the “Nomad Portrait: Gipuzkoa” trip in spring 2020 visiting town by town, as traveling photographers used to do.
We will arrive in the village on Thursday, we will settle and mount the exhibition on the left side of the motorhome with the portraits we have been making.
On Saturday and Sunday, we will portray whoever wants to participate in.
It is an open and transversal activity, free for all the participants and, of course, optional.
On Monday we will prepare all the material in physical and digital format to give it to the local entities so that it is kept well. We will also update the website and send the portrait to each participant by email.

Why this is important
After living in Barcelona for fifteen years, we chose to reduce material possessions and approach minimalism and the slow movement. We wanted to stop consuming for consuming and being in a hurry. We went from living in a city to living in a small motor home.
This option helped us to get closer to people and, above all, learn from all the people we meet along the way.
This project is aimed at those who care about Basque territory and culture, photography lovers, those interested in anthropology or social studies, people who consider their lifestyle, those who travel, to the nomads, but mainly to the people who live in small places who are sometimes relegated in the background.
We want to do it because we know that each story is important, that each person is important and there is always something to learn from them. Because sharing the identity of a people is keeping memory alive forever.

Team and experience
Seventeen months after leaving Barcelona, they have travelled more than 10,000 km, and carried out this activity in Tolosa with the support of Box.A Arte Elkartea, Kontenporanea and Girabira Contemporary Art Festival in Irun, and at the Wereldwijf Art Festival of Heerlijkheid in Zetten, The Netherlands.
We have also been portraying interesting characters who crossed our journey, who many ended up being friends. From a small farmer from Alegia to a bison guide in Poland, a French activist / kayaker and two enterprising women (mother and daughter) in Cabo de Gata.

About Us
We are a couple of photographers. A Basque and a Majorcan who met each other living in Barcelona 5 years ago. Each one of us has developed different aspects in Photography. Eli (www.eligarmendia.com) worked more on the artistic side of photography with personal projects and exhibitions, and Carlos (www.carlospericas.net) worked on the world of commissioning, focused on portraiture.

Social commitment

Creating culture
We hope to bring photography to small municipalities or communities in Gipuzkoa through a professional photo studio and a traveling exhibition room. We want to give all participants the opportunity to have their own portrait in good quality. This portrait will be part of a photographic archive as a local and collective heritage. Thus, we claim that sharing the identity of a people is keeping memory alive forever.
